LITTLE INCIDENTS

Never a moment of doubt
Nothing would stand in the way
Of the plans that we made
As our shining parade
Lit the way we intended to stay
You never could sell a punchline
But you kept me amused with your style
And the laugh in your eyes
Still had nothing to hide
As you incidentally, innocently smiled

All of those years in a blur
No need for clarity then
I’m the first one to say
If love came the same way
as it did, I’d fall back in again
You seemed to think that some old film
Could release the romantic inside
Though you didn’t see it,
I have to admit
That I incidentally, accidentally cried

Little incidents
Of no consequence except to you and to me
Little incidents
Insignificant, except to you and to me

There in the midst of it all
Time should have stopped in it’s tracks
I might have insisted
If there was a risk
That we might not find our way back
On a night like so many others
without looking too far ahead
Though we never intended
To fall there and then
We incidentally, consequently did

Insignificant, except to you and to me

I never requested a love song
To better express what I meant
Just muddled along
with the same silly song
Thinking I knew much better than them
Now the doubts are all gathered to find me
unable to brush them aisde
When I searched for the clues
and the answers in you
You incidentally, eloquently lied
